Here is a bit of good news for those staunch supporters
of Wordnet who may want to get a bit more life
out of their current systems.
It's an ill wind that doesn't blow somebody some
good and here is a short story of irony that is
worthy of O.Henry.
Our hero is an administrator of a Wordnet system
and was trying to use Recorderlink with SARA software
to find calls from the E1 pipes terminating on
his power dialler and switch. Now anyone who uses
SARA knows this is a really tough task, so the
administrator makes a request to head-office to
upgrade the system, which appeared to fall on
deaf ears.
Undaunted, our hero gets hold of an SDK (Software
Developers Kit) and over the last year writes
his own browser based search and retrieval system
to replace the SARA.
Just at the point that he finishes his alpha testing,
head-office do an about face and replace the entire
Wordnet system with spanking new Vocal Recorders,
leaving our hero delighted with his new kit but
also nursing a recently orphaned 'Son-of-SARA'
and wondering just how good his creation might
have been had he got the chance to use it.
As we at BSL were responsible for getting head
office to buy the new kit, we feel a little bit
responsible for the poor man's plight. So; if
there is anyone out there with a Wordnet system
who would like to beta test a browser based Search
and Retrieval system, get in contact; we can put
you in touch with a young man who would be very
pleased to talk to you.
Send an email to thales-mgr@businesssystemsuk.com
and we will pass it on.
