Here's the deal - you've decided to migrate to VoIP, so the question is: are there issues that affect your call recording? Yes there are - so be careful and take note of the following points.
Firstly, be aware that some IP phone systems use dynamic voice compression; this means that the voice compression rate can change at anytime during the call and this process can present a problem for the call recorder. Consequently, when choosing an IP call recorder you should check that it can handle dynamic voice compression or, on the flipside when looking at prospective VoIP systems, check they are compatible with your preferred call recorder.
Secondly, in an attempt to enhance voice security on VoIP systems, some parties are considering the use of encryption algorithms; these encode and protect the voice files. Again a word of caution, since the very essence of encryption is designed to stop voice files being decoded this can present another problem for your call recorder; it must be capable of decoding encrypted files. Some VoIP system manufacturers are producing new interfaces and tools to enable recording of encrypted calls. Therefore, you need to find out if your recording provider is aware of this trend and how they propose to address it.
